Max has been professionally performing, composing, and recording music for over seven years, specialising in genres such as Jazz, Post-Punk, Electronic and Contemporary Rock/Pop. He has over 10 years experience playing both the guitar and bass, and strong experience performing on drums, keys and vocals. Max completed a Double Degree in a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) and Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) at the Australian National University; seeking to gain a strong understanding of music and its interaction with business operations. He has taught at numerous schools across the ACT and Victoria over the last 5 years, teaching students and groups of diverse ages, abilities and learning styles. His teaching methods aim to provide a well-rounded contextual base in modern music theory and traditional practice techniques whilst encouraging and supporting student goals. Max strives to first understand a student’s musical aspirations and learning style before applying the best method to assist the student in realising and achieving their goals. Max highly values music teaching work and the opportunity it provides to meet with endeavouring musicians of diverse ages and personalities.
In various bands, Max has supported artists such as Mildlife, Shady Nasty, DZ Deathrays, Dust, Alex Lahey, Slowly Slowly, Jitwam, Barney McAll, and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers. He is involved in regular interstate touring including performance at festivals and venues such as BIGSOUND (QLD), Infinity Worm (ACT), The Night Cat (VIC), The Corner (VIC), Northcote Social Club (VIC), Vic On The Park (NSW), and sideway (ACT). Max has worked as a Session Musician, and has been featured on numerous recordings played on Australian Broadcasting Media including Triple J, PBS, FBi Radio, Triple R, and ABC’s RAGE TV program. Max’s most active projects at the moment are post-punk band, ‘dogworld’, and jazz-electronic group, ‘Micah Heathwood’.
