Kate Riley
Voice Specialist Flute and Piano (Teaches Monday and Friday)
Lesson Types:
Voice - All Styles/Levels Flute - Beginner/Intermediate Piano - Beginner
Kate began her journey learning music young, starting flute lessons at 8, and voice lessons at 12 after immersing herself in community musical theatre. Later, she picked up piano as a way to broaden her general musical knowledge and accompany herself singing and teaching (as well as for personal enjoyment - music always has to be for enjoyment!). Through her involvement with theatre during her teens and early adulthood, she found a deep love of expressing emotionality through musicality, whether by connecting to audiences through a heartfelt performance piece, or just as a wonderful personal outlet for creative expression.
With 14 years of teaching experience, Kate has supported a vast array of students through multiple styles and genres over that time. She has a particular focus on building confidence and joy within learning and playing music, supporting vocal health, as well as building skill and control of your instrument. She also has a particular interest in supporting neurodiverse students. Being neurodivergent herself, she knows that more traditional teaching styles and structures can sometimes feel limiting and uncomfortable, she aims to build a learning environment that suits individuals needs, desires and comfort.
Kate has also been performing as a cabaret artist for the past 6 years, sauntering around singing soulful jazz standards and bluesy Postmodern Jukebox covers, delving into the theatrical and pouring her heart out on stage.
By sharing her passion for music and self-expression, Kate is committed to empower a new generation of musicians.
